Released in 2002 on the Red Hot Organization’s Fela Kuti-inspired Red Hot + Riot, Sade’s original 2000 single “By Your Side” was given a silky Afrobeat treatment by Cottonbelly, a long-time collaborator of Sade’s. It’s better than the original, and remains the gem on an otherwise solid tribute album that features the likes of Nile Rodgers, Talib Kweli, Roy Hargrove, Common, D’Angelo, Macy Gray, and Femi Kuti.
